Clara Bewick Colby was the adoptive mother or Zintka Laluni, or “Lost Bird,” a baby that survived the Wounded Knee Massacre, and this presentation will focus primarily on that chapter of Colby’s fascinating life. She was also one of the founders of the Beatrice Public Library in the late 1800s, and one of the most active and versatile participants in the women’s suffrage movement in the United States.
Speaker Laureen Riedesel was the Beatrice Public Library director for over 40 years (now retired) and is a popular speaker on many topics related to Nebraska history.
Free and open to the public. Light reception afterwards.
