Author of Black Elk Speaks and numerous other works of prose and poetry, John G. Neihardt is the Poet Laureate in Perpetuity of Nebraska. To commemorate his life and work, the John G. Neihardt State Historic Site was established on the site of his former home in Bancroft, Nebraska.

36th Neihardt Spring Conference

The 36th annual Neihardt Spring Conference, Lakota Lives: Discovery Through Biography will be held Saturday, April 29th from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Neihardt State Historic Site in Bancroft. The event will explore the lives and legacy of notable Lakota people, especially as preserved through biography with featured presentations by authors and educators Delphine Red Shirt, Tim Anderson, Chuck Trimble and Jerome Kills Small.  The event will also include the presentation of the Neihardt Foundation “Wall of Fame” award to Jon Bailey of Bancroft, Nebraska.
